Current requirement: Schools have a legal and ethical responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of all students, and publishing clear and comprehensive information about safeguarding on their website is a key part of this commitment.

Although the current checklist of statutory information does not specify in detail what information should be published. In this instance, the more information the better, as it highlights how seriously Safeguarding is taken within your school setting.

Suggested information that should be included:

Introduction to Safeguarding

  • The definition of Safeguarding the importance of it within the school context.
  • Highlight the school’s commitment to creating a safe environment for all students.

Designated Safeguarding Leads

  • Information should include a name, photo and contact information for those people within school that hold the Designated Safeguarding Lead and Deputy Safeguarding Lead role. You may also wish to include the details for the Governor who is responsible for Safeguarding within the school should you have one.
  • Their roles and responsibilities.

Safeguarding Policies and related Policies

  • A link should be provided to the full Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy. You may wish to display within the page key points from the policy.
  • Child on child abuse Policy
  • You should also highlight when this was last updated and how often these policies are updated.

Reporting Concerns

  • Information as to how pupils, parents and staff can and should report Safeguarding concerns.
  • Procedures for making a referral including confidentiality considerations.

Training and Awareness of Safeguarding within your school

  • Provide information as to how staff members are trained in safeguarding and how often they are trained.
  • Provide information on how pupils are educated about safeguarding and online safety.

Support for Students

  • Provide information on how the school supports pupils who may be at risk
  • Details of any pastoral care, counselling services or external support agencies that the school provides to pupils.

Recruitment and Staff Conduct

  • Details regarding Safer recruitment practices, including the requirement for DBS checks
  • Information around staff code of conduct and expectations around safeguarding

Safeguarding in the Curriculum

  • Provide information of how Safeguarding is integrated within the curriculum. This may be, for example, PSHE, Computing etc.
  • You may even delve further and include what topics are covered within these such as bullying, online safety, healthy relationships.

Additional Programmes specific to the school

  • This may include: Prevent (safeguarding communities about the threat of terrorism)

External Links and resources

  • Links to relevant policies and regulations from the DfE and Government
  • Links to external safeguarding resources and how to contact them. This may include NSPCC, Childline and other local safeguarding organisations

School leaflets

  • Publish relevant safeguarding leaflets and brochures, or posters relating to Safeguarding within the school.

  1. Make sure you have all relevant permissions in place for any photographs that you are publishing on your school website.
  2. Make sure any images on your website of children do not include their full names.
  3. Any images that you no longer have permission for need removing from the library, not just deleted from the page.
  4. Any image must not be titled with the name of the pupil in the photo.
